Sasha Mathieu

MA Student, Strategic Studies

Sasha Mathieu is a Master of Strategic Studies student at the University of Calgary, specializing in Arctic security and NATO. She holds an Honours BSocSc in International Studies and Modern Languages from the University of Ottawa.

She has worked across several federal departments – including Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED), the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC), and Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) – supporting policy development, international relations, and strategic analysis.

Sasha is a recipient of the Canada Graduate Scholarship (CGS-M) and the MINDS CGS-M Supplement for her research on reconciling environmental and security imperatives amid growing militarization in the Arctic. Her broader interests focus on the intersections of climate change and security, Canada’s relationships with A7 states, and broader questions of Arctic security and NATO.

Outside her academic and professional work, Sasha advocates for women’s health, particularly endometriosis and adenomyosis. She volunteers with The Endometriosis Network Canada (TENC) and is currently organizing their annual charity run in Calgary.

That was one of real takeaways that I had at the gather- ing at that time. So, when the invitation came this time, I said wow I would love to do that again.”
