Listen to Madeleine Redfern, the former Iqaluit mayor, speak to the challenges that rural and remote regions in Canada face accessing the internet. Nunavut currently relies on satellite service, which proves to be unstable, slow, and expensive. Madeleine calls for equality of service and highlights the need for a proper national broadband or connectivity strategy to adequately address the issue. With the digital divide growing, it will continue to be a challenge for Nunavut communities to provide essential services, develop the economy, and communicate with each other unless action is taken.
